Leo The Lion
ca. 1984, US
(Produced in 1966 in Japan as "The New Jungle Emperor" or "Onward, Leo")
Dubbed by Sound International Corporation
Actors unknown
The first Kimba series ("Jungle Emperor") was such a hit in Japan that Dr. Tezuka went ahead and immediately produced a sequel without first making a deal to bring it to America. As a result, the New Jungle Emperor series wasn't seen in this country until 1984, when it was dubbed by a new company and given a new title, "Leo The Lion"--the dubbing company decided to use all of the original Japanese names for the characters, which meant that Kimba became known as Leo.
This story of Kimba as an adult has a lot to offer, the most rewarding part being watching Leo's son, Rune, grow up. However, the entire series has not been available since its initial run on the Christian Broadcasting Network.
Only some of the Leo The Lion episodes had been released to home video in the US in the past, and in EVERY case between 3 and 5 minutes had been cut out of each story. These were also plagued with various technical problems such as extremely distorted soundtracks.
